I will shout about how excellent the love to dream bags are forever. Ours just didn't love a swaddle and the arms up position was excellent for her. As soon as we put her in them she slept better. Plus they look like little flying squirrels and it's adorable. Not the cheapest but they're always circulating on vinted etc.

Love to dream has been a godsend for us! Since using it he's been sleeping through. We've had the 2.5 tog ones so far as he's a November baby and we keep the house quite cold. He's just transitioned to arms out at 3.5 months (very close to rolling so did it before we had to) and had a few unsettled nights but nothing major. Even though he's arms out I think we'll keep using the love to dream bags for a while - probably getting his next one in a lower tog as spring is coming.

Sleeping bags only for my first, and both with my second although sleeping bags more now. I definitely sleep easier with the sleeping bags but I liked the the convinence of layering blankets depending on room temp. I used large muslin blankets and cellular for that - never used anything synthetic due to risk of overheating.
Baby preferred arms-up Love to Dream over Tommee Tippee: 'my baby didn't like it as much as the arms up one'
Love to Dream was it for us in the newborn phase! And you only need 2 at a time. We kept using them until she rolled and then switched to Baby Deedee!
L2D was the only thing that worked in newborn phase, used until rolling: 'Love to Dream was it for us in the newborn phase!'

For the first 2 months my son would only sleep in the Love to Dream swaddle , he always wanted his hands up. I get the nb size for all my friends' baby showers (on top of something they registered for ofc). After about 2.5 months, he liked the kyte baby sleep bags.

I would definitely recommend a 0.5 or a 0.2, when the summer heat really hits they will come in handy. Mine slept just in a 0.2 and a nappy when it was really hot (she was born at the start of the heatwave summer 2022). Love to Dream swaddles were my personal choice, my baby liked being arms up rather than tucked down
Personal choice for summer heatwave baby, likes arms-up: 'Love to Dream swaddles were my personal choice, my baby liked being arms up'
We first used multiple cellular blankets as she was in the nicu when she was born, and that's what they used (tucked fully under the mattress, under her arms with baby's feet at the bottom). We then used the Love To Dream Swaddle Ups when she was big enough which she LOVED, normally with a cellular blanket over the top. Bonus points for looking like an adorable starfish whilst wearing them. Now she's showing signs of rolling we use a sleeping bag and are transitioning out of using cellular blan...

I don't like bamboo. I love the love to dream swaddle as it allows for easy skin to skin and i still use them now when she's 6m in the stroller to help her sleep when we're pushing her. It's easy to put on when out and about vs the ones with velcro. Velcro is also annoying to wash. You can get the transitional ones so you can keep using them after they start rolling. I have woolino and it's good but i just learned it's super washed wool. Ecolino line is organic cotton I also plan to get ergop...

I used a light blanket only when my son was born for a few weeks, as he didn't move at all. Then into the sleeping bag/swaddle he went (love to dream). He is now 8 months and sleeps in a long sleeved bag.
Used as swaddle/sleeping bag combo from early weeks: 'into the sleeping bag/swaddle he went (love to dream)'
I had a summer baby (and she runs warm) and usually during the day I would swaddle her in a muslin or thin blanket, then at night would use the love to dream swaddle. Really liked it and found it worth the price. They have lovely lightweight ones for summer. She wore either just a footless sleepsuit or just a vest. You'll soon figure out what works for your baby!

Try both and see what your baby prefers! The lovetodream also come in tog ratings, so you can get the one suitable for the temperature. Sleep bags and lovetodream swaddles usually come with little graphs telling you what your baby should wear underneath. Just check the sizing/weight recommendation on the sleep bags, some labelled 0-6 months are actually too big for newborns (they could scooch down into them), so you'll initially want the smaller ones.
Recommends trying, notes tog ratings and sizing guidance: 'The lovetodream also come in tog ratings, so you can get the one suitable for the temperature'
I have a superlove merino and love to dream 2.5 tog with sleeves. None of them are particularly cheap, unfortunately, but they are very long (especially the merino), so should last for quite some time.

we use the love to dream normal and footed sleeping bags, they seem quite long or if you want to invest - highly recommend superlove merino. that one goes from birth to 2 years and is super long

I'm due with our second (32 weeks), our first was a winter baby so also trying to work out what do I do with a summer newborn! We didn't swaddle our first, tried with large muslins but he just busted out of them so he went into regular sleep sacks once he was big enough. For our second I'm going to try swaddling again, but this time I've got a couple of love to dream swaddles in the newborn/moderate size and tog and then some of the little Velcro swaddles too. I've gotten them all off Vinted so

I think sleeping bags can be quite a personal choice so maybe not a good present. My friend bought us one but we never used it, because we preferred the love to dream ones where their arms are up.
Preferred Love to Dream arms-up position over standard sleeping bags: 'we preferred the love to dream ones where their arms are up'
For newborns sleeping bags are often not an option because they're too small. Halo sleep sacks and swaddle up suits are both suitable for newborns. If your LO likes sleeping with their hands up by their head I would definitely recommend the swaddle up - pricey but in our experience worth it. You can get some good deals on Vinted though.

Kyte XS sleep sacks are quite small. My baby started rolling early and they were the only ones I liked for a tiny baby. I seriously bought over a dozen brands of sleep sack. Kyte was the only one with a neck hole where I was confident it wouldn't ride up over baby's face. Woolino 2 months - 2 years wasn't acceptable until about 5 or 6 months, even with the underarm snaps. I had a lot of anxiety about this. Prior to the sleep sack, we used the Love to Dream arms up swaddle.

We used the love to dream swaddle up for about the first week, then he hated that so we switched to blanket tucked it and that was really good for him. Around 2 months we switched to a 1.5 tog sleep tack without poppers up top as he seemed to hate the ones that had the poppers on the tabs. Now the weather has changed we're in a 2.5 tog sleep sack or the suit one with arms and legs. He's always been a cosy baby, he's only happy if he's properly rugged up!
