Milton cold water. Definitely my best baby buy! Bought it the day we bought baby home as we switched from mam (self sterilising) to nuk premature bottles. It's so easy, you just fill it up with cold water, put a milton tablet or fluid into it and then chuck in all your bottles, dummies etc and leave for 15 mins and they're sterile! It can there be left there for 24 hours and you can keep adding things throughout the day. I've found it super helpful now my daughter is weaning to sterilise her spo
"Definitely my best baby buy!" — strongest possible endorsement. Describes full process, versatility (bottles, dummies, weaning spoons). Switched to Milton from MAM self-sterilising.
Swear by Milton cold water steriliser. The solution is good for 24 hours so you just clean with water and soap and pop them in the basin. When you travel you just take the tablets with you and can sterilise in any basin or sink after washing it with water and soap. I use 6 smaller bottles at a time when I started pumping, I'd pump the whole day and collect it in a Dr browns milk jug and every night pour out my bottles for the next day. That way it was just one session of washing everything in
"Swear by Milton" — strong endorsement. Details: 24-hour solution, travel-friendly (tablets portable), 6 bottles at a time, specific pumping workflow.
We got a cold water system and it's the best. We've got 5 bottles on rotation.... 9/10 mine are getting pulled out of the water to be used. Think you've read the 24 hour thing wrong. It's the water that needs replacing every 24 hours. Although if you aren't using your bottles every 24 hours you probably don't need that many bottles 🥰
"It's the best" — strong endorsement. Describes daily workflow with 5 bottles on rotation, practical details about 24-hour water change.
My baby is EBF (almost 11 weeks old), before birth I bought: - manual breastpump - suction cup type of pump to catch whatever comes out the other breast - milton sterilising tablets + 5l container - 4 containers to freeze breastmilk (I think some people get bags) - a singular mam bottle (came in a free set with a newsletter subscription) Super happy with my choices in the area because I used everything and didn't need anything else so far. I have 4 portions of milk frozen for emergencies or i
"Super happy with my choices" — bought Milton tablets + 5L container before birth and used everything. No regrets, practical minimalist approach.
We have used only a cold water steriliser, cost like 15 pounds to buy and the tablets are about 4 pounds for forty. It takes 15 mins to sterilise something in it so you just put stuff in well before you want it and it's fine. You can just leave stuff in there. We fill it before we go to bed and it lasts 24 hours. Never had an issue.
Specific costs (£15 unit, £4 for 40 tablets), 15-min sterilise time, 24-hour solution life. "Never had an issue." Very detailed practical endorsement.
Another vote for Milton cold water. It seems to be the method most often recommended by midwives and health visitors because it's really reliable and reduces the odds of burning yourself handling microwave sterilisers in the middle of the night on zero sleep (speaking from experience). We had a dedicated bucket with a lid that we refreshed every day with Milton liquid. I never noticed any residue but tbf the bucket was only used for sterilising. I tossed everything in (bottles, pump parts, dumm
Owner who used a dedicated bucket daily. Specifically praises reliability, safety vs microwave burns at night, midwife endorsement. No residue noticed.
My baby is 6m, for the first 3 months we sterilised in the microwave (MAM bottles), then when traveling we used Milton and never looked back. We take them out of the solution and put on a bottle drying "tree"/rack. Then once dry I build them back up, never had any issues. Not saying you need to do this, I totally understand there is so much information out there and in my experience lots of the recommended things seem very difficult/time consuming.
Switched from MAM microwave to Milton and "never looked back" — strong preference. 6 months of use, describes full workflow. No issues.
MAM bottles and the Milton tablets. Had a steam steriliser the first two babies and the tablets have been so much easier this time around
Third-time parent who switched from steam steriliser to Milton tablets. Direct comparison: "so much easier this time around." Strong experiential endorsement.
We used the Milton tablets and never had an issue with residue. I used them for everything.
Direct user who "used them for everything" with no issues. Positive endorsement addressing residue concern specifically.
We use Milton tablets with no issue, just throw everything in a bucket through the day. We also have the Mam self-sterilising bottles that you can do in the microwave. Three minutes for one bottle, plus a minute for each additional. It works, but I don't like as much because the bottles are super hot and a literal pain to retrieve!
Uses Milton daily ("throw everything in a bucket through the day"), no issues. Directly compares to MAM microwave method and prefers Milton.
I always just used Milton cold water with occasional microwave bags if I was desperate and couldn't wait 15 minutes or we were out
Primary method was Milton cold water. High-scoring comment (24 upvotes). Mentions 15-min wait as only minor inconvenience.
I'd get a Milton cold water steriliser and some tablets, super cheap and we use it constantly.
Uses Milton constantly. Highlights cheapness as key advantage. Direct experience.
Get a couple of mam bottle and a Milton cold water steriliser and tablets, you just wash and dunk in the steriliser and work from there, Shake the excess water and assemble bottle when you need it and they are good to go, You change the water every 24 hours and can keep everything in the water no need to do any more xx
Describes full workflow: wash, dunk, shake, assemble. Highlights simplicity — 24-hour water change and "no need to do any more."
I have a UV steriliser I used at the start, but when my baby transitioned to combi feeding properly I used Milton in a bucket. Significantly simpler! I have heard good things about using the steam sterilisers but don't have a microwave and didn't fancy shelling out for the plug in ones (plus not sure I liked the idea of loads of steam under kitchen cabinets).
Switched from UV to Milton when combi feeding increased. "Significantly simpler!" -- direct comparison favouring Milton over UV and steam alternatives.
I don't rinse. When I bought the milton cold water steriliser a year ago, the guidance hadn't changed. We just take them out of the steriliser after 15 minutes and leave the parts to air dry. LO has never had any adverse reactions from it.
Used Milton for a year with no adverse reactions. Positive but acknowledges the guidance change around rinsing creates some uncertainty.
Mam bottles are self sterilising in the microwave, are you talking about buying a second steriliser? I used mam and also just had a Milton cold water steriliser which was really good. Never looked into the uv ones tho
Used Milton cold water steriliser alongside MAM bottles. "Really good" -- direct positive opinion. Paired products for full coverage.
Just to flag that whilst the guidance changed, Milton itself didn't change how they produce the tablets. It's the same as it's been for a long time when there was no guidance to rinse. The only thing that changed was government rules which meant Milton have to now advise to rinse. We've been using them for 8 months now, have never rinsed and it has never been an issue for our LO.
8 months of use, never rinsed, no issues. Provides useful context that the product formula hasn't changed — only government labelling rules.
I formula feed and just use cold water Milton. Prepare the solution and it lasts for 24 hours. It only takes 15 mins to sterilize
Formula-feeding parent using Milton daily. Specific details: 24-hour solution, 15-min sterilise time.
I like the Milton cold steriliser. This was posted 10 hours ago if any of those answers are helpful https://www.reddit.com/r/PregnancyUK/s/hGX8Fb1iQL
Direct user who likes Milton. Brief but clearly positive endorsement from experience.
I'm second time round. Your first journey sounds like mine. Hell. I used Milton cold water with the first one and I probably will again once my partner has gone back to work We also have a UV steriliser that does 3 bottles (mam) at a time, that's what I'm using mostly at the moment. I have about 10 or more bottles and we just do one big wash each night and then sterilise through the night/next day. When I'm at my mums (most days) we just use boiling water to sterilise the teats before use.
Second-time parent who used Milton with first child and plans to use again. Currently using UV but returning to Milton — speaks to its reliability.
Milton cold water steriliser. We stopped once baby wasn't newborn and just washed with dish soap and hot water. We used BIBs glass bottles.
Used Milton during the newborn phase then transitioned to soap and water. Positive but brief — chose Milton as their sterilising method.
We used Milton cold water sterilizing for our first, it was super simple and cheap to do but I have been put off it this time round due to the rules changing and things needing rinsed afterwards. We have bought an electric steam steriliser this time
Used Milton for first child -- "super simple and cheap." But switched away for second child due to new rinsing guidance. Positive about the product itself but concern about guidance change.
