We had a basic black and white hand me down. I thought it was fine. It died, then we got a vtech smart wifi (RM 5864 HD) - and holy hell is it better! Awesome night vision, WAY better microphone that does not pick up the white noise machine, has a 3 colored light built into the camera, option to pair it with your phone (though we never use that). My needs were pretty basic but this was a really well built and well designed one.
'Holy hell is it better'; specific model RM 5864 HD; awesome night vision, mic doesn't pick up white noise machine, 3 colored light; 'really well built'
We have the VTech RM7764-2HD Smart WiFi Baby Monitor. 18 months in and it's never had any issues. App is good, connection to the monitor has never dropped, even across our house from basement to top floor. Would absolutely purchase it again.
'Would absolutely purchase it again'; 18 months no issues; specific: works basement to top floor, app is good, connection never dropped
We have the vtech non wifi sound only monitor and it's fantastic, simple, reliable, and cheap. I think the range is like 1000 ft and I can get service even in the yard or if I go get something from the car. Edit: ours is model DM111
'Fantastic, simple, reliable, and cheap'; specific: 1000 ft range, works in yard and car; model DM111
I've had this one for 5 yrs and it's great VTech Upgraded Audio Baby Monitor... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JEV5UI8?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
'5 yrs and it's great'; specific longevity demonstrates reliability
I love the Vtech sound-only monitors—pretty simple. I like the slightly more expensive one ($43) that has [a walkie-talkie feature](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007NG5UF4?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share). It's not super useful when the kid is a baby, but it's extremely useful for when your kindergartener calls out for snacks and you can walkie-talkie them to stay put and wait for beef jerky.
'I love'; specific: $43 price, walkie-talkie feature with concrete use-case for older child; long-term value
I have [these from v-tech](https://www.vtechbabycare.com/products/Digital-Audio-Baby-Monitor-with-up-to-1-000-ft-of-Range-Crystal-Clear-Sound-and-Alerts/2537). They're as no BS as it gets. No video, no WiFi, can be plugged up or used on battery, and the audio is really good. I've used these with all 3 of my kids. My first was 2014, second 2016 and I got rid of the first set after that. Got a new set for this baby. She's still in our room so we haven't used them yet but they're easy, inexpensive,
Used with all 3 kids since 2014; 'as no BS as it gets'; specific: 1000 ft range, battery or plug-in, good audio, inexpensive; repeat purchaser
With my first baby we bought and audio-only Vtech, worked great! Now that my second was born we bought another Vtech, but this time one with video feed, no Wifi though. I've read several creepy experiences about people hacking into wifi monitors and talking to the kiddos, no thanks. We got the VM5267. In our experience, the fancy ones aren't really necessary.
'Worked great'; repeat buyer for second child (upgraded to video model VM5267); specific model cited; 'fancy ones aren't really necessary'
We use the VTech baby monitor, it has a standalone screen or can be used with an app. It works really well for us, you can control the camera just fine with either method but it's nice to bring the screen with you around the house when baby is napping in the crib/basinet. You can pan the camera around the room, so you don't have to necessarily worry about both cribs needing to be in view at once. The screen also gives you a visual indication if it's accidentally muted but the baby is making nois
'Works really well for us'; specific features: standalone screen plus app, pan camera, muted visual indicator; practical for twins setup
We have a Hello Baby mounted to the wall at home. Love it, as other commenters noted. We have a cheapie VTech for on-the-go that we actually also ended up using while he was in the bassinet in our bedroom and it has impressed me so much. Video is clear no matter how dark the room, and we can easily hear his breathing on it.
'Impressed me so much'; specific: clear video in dark room, can hear breathing; initially a backup that exceeded expectations
Vtech audio only monitors are great for what you're looking for. We used these when we're traveling and they typically have better range than more video monitors For video options, we like the Eufy Security Spaceview Baby Monitor. It's not wifi, and there's no phone integration, so you have the camera and the handheld. We've been using this one for our first for 5 years with no issue.
'Great for what you're looking for'; specific: better range than video monitors, good for travel
I recommend getting a radio monitor that only does audio, like [this one](https://www.vtechbabycare.com/products/Digital-Audio-Baby-Monitor-Enhanced-with-up-to-1-500-ft-of-Range-Sound-Alert-Talk-Back-Intercom--Night-Light/4125) from v-tech for example. (which happens to be the exact one we have). Avoid anything that requires wi-fi like the plague Our doctor told us there's no real benefit to getting a video monitor, and in some cases can serve to only heighten the anxiety new parents feel
Specific model linked with 1500 ft range; doctor's endorsement of audio-only approach; recommends it explicitly
We have a basic VTech system , the model number is VM7468-2HQ. It has two cameras (nice if you have the baby sleep in multiple locations, or in our case, for a second kid), is completely self contained, and it has decent range, good night vision, can pan and tilt from the monitor, has audio, and a night light built into the cameras. Our previous camera was a Nooie wifi model with an app and we got sick of the cameras randomly not working for no apparent reason and we were concerned about havin
Specific model VM7468-2HQ; dual cameras, self-contained, decent range, good night vision, pan/tilt, night light; switched from unreliable wifi to VTech
I've used the basic VTech audio monitor and a ring camera for both my kids. When traveling, I got the VTech video monitor. I find the basic audio monitor to be more than adequate especially after sleep training. We never used safety blankets and stuff like that. It was swaddles and then a sleep sack. When the kids were little, we had the ring motion detection on. Now, no motion detection - the video is just to make sure we can watch the kids in case they cough or wake up or something. And also c
'More than adequate'; used for both kids; got video version for travel; specific use-cases described post sleep-training
I bought the VTech 5 smart wifi 1080p monitor. It's one of the rare ones that has both the app and a dedicated monitor screen. My wife didn't want to use her phone and I did, so it's all in one. Also pretty cheap
Specific: 'both the app and a dedicated monitor screen'; solved couple's differing preferences (phone vs dedicated); 'pretty cheap'
Best of both worlds. Get one that does WiFi and has a local handheld unit. We use both frequently. Base unit for night time stays plugged in on nightstand. Use phone app for travel, or checks when in other areas of house. Some people bash Wi-Fi due to privacy concerns, I feel confident that we aren't that interesting and if someone goes to the trouble to hack it, sorry we are boring. We have the Vtech brand and like it.
'Like it'; specific dual-use setup: handheld for nightstand, phone app for travel/other rooms; describes practical daily workflow
