It was really important for us to get one that is wifi free and we went with the Infant Optix DXR-8 Pro and I can't recommend it enough! The set up is super easy, screen is huge with great resolution and I can zoom in close enough to see little guy's chest breathing. It also has a feature that cuts out white noise so I'm just hearing him and not our Hatch and humidifier.
'Can't recommend it enough'; specific details: huge screen, great resolution, zoom to see breathing, white noise cut feature
Infant Optix DXR pro. Non-wifi, can add multiple cameras for multiple kids or play room, very long range (as a test we took the monitor across the street and still had full signal). Great screen resolution, sound quality and ambient noise filter. We love it so much we got a second one to travel with.
Enthusiastic: 'We love it so much we got a second one to travel with'; cites specific features like long range, screen resolution, ambient noise filter
I love Infant Optics! Nobody can hack into your monitor and watch your baby. It rotates the cam with the hand-held video display, tells you the temperature in the room, and the charger is very long to connect to it. It keeps a great charge. I definitely recommend it.
'I love' and 'I definitely recommend it'; cites specific features: remote rotation, temperature, long charger, great charge
We have the Infant Optics DXR8. It's great. We are coming up on 4 years of use and it's still chugging along. I like that it doesn't have wifi. It doesn't rely on some other tech that could have some problem. It connects without issue every time and have had it out in the yard and still been able to keep an eye on our little guy. Couldn't recommend it enough.
'Couldn't recommend it enough'; 4 years of reliable use, 'connects without issue every time', works from yard
Been using the Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro for a year now and it has been great. * Doesn't rely on our phones or WiFi * Very reliable connection (has never disconnected) * Seamless expansion to multiple cameras (we added a 2nd for a play area after a few months) * Cameras have a thermometer that reads out on the display (enabled us to set our house thermostat such that LO's room was the right temp range) * Plays a warning tone if the battery gets low or connection is lost * Stupid simple interface
'Has been great'; detailed list of positives: never disconnected, multi-camera expansion, thermometer, warning tones, simple interface; 1 year of use
as with most things parent related, this kind of comes down to your anxiety level. More information does not mean more peace of mind. In fact, it can actually drive you to be more anxious. I have a DXR8Pro and love it. Take it with me everywhere and we travel a lot. It's built to take abuse and i love that I can keep the monitor up on a separate screen from my phone. My friends with the nanit are CONSTANTLY on their phone because of it. Yes, you want to see your baby but guess what happens when
'Love it'; specific benefits: travels well, 'built to take abuse', separate screen from phone avoids phone obsession; compares favorably to Nanit
We've got the infant optics pro and we love it. It doesn't have wifi so the audio/video is only available on the monitor (our biggest requirement), is relatively small so we're able to travel with it, and it has the option to add a second camera and scroll between both for future kiddos and if there are two places that kiddo sleeps regularly (we had one camera setup in our room when baby still slept there overnight and one in her room for naps).
'We love it'; specific details: portable for travel, dual camera setup for different rooms, no wifi as biggest requirement met
Infant optics is great. Simple and reliable with no extra features you don't need. It's video with no WiFi. Whatever you choose i do recommend getting a video one - I've found it really useful because sometimes babies make weird sounds but are completely fine and you can see that on the monitor and not intervene
'Great', 'Simple and reliable'; specific use-case: can see baby is fine when making weird sounds without intervening
Infant optics does't use wifi either. Going on 8 yrs having two cameras and one monitor that isn't your phone. Scans between the two every 10 sec
8 years of use with two cameras demonstrates long-term reliability and satisfaction; 'isn't your phone' indicates valued feature
Infantoptics for video, vtech for audio. Neither connect to WiFi so no worries about someone viewing the stream or talking through it (yes there are loads of stories of this happening) and both have lasted me YEARS.
'Lasted me YEARS' (emphasis in original); specific detail about duration and security benefit of non-WiFi
We love our infant optics monitor. We didn't want something that needed WiFi because of the hacking potential and we wanted it to work if our WiFi was down. It's also easy to use elsewhere if we need to without having to set it up on another WiFi. We wanted something we can add cameras to if we have more kids as well.
'We love our infant optics'; specific reasons: works without WiFi, portable without reconfiguration, expandable for more kids
Infant Optics Pro has been great for us. No wifi but reaches really far, clear enough image and zoom to see baby breathe, normal sound
'Great for us' with specific details: long range, clear image with zoom to see baby breathe; straightforward positive experience
Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro . Not app based and it's not WiFi . So it's a secure line with tremendously good range inside the house and out . The sound and brightness adjust as needed. Zoom and pan feature is nice
Specific features cited: 'tremendously good range inside the house and out', adjustable sound/brightness, zoom and pan; secure non-WiFi line
We have the Infant Optics and don't have anything bad to say about it; we really like it. It's reliable, affordable, and non-wifi (which was our top requirement). Plus, the company sends you a free camera w/proof of a review of the monitor, which makes it easier to watch LO in more than just one room. I personally never wanted "sleep data" b/c it'd drive me nutty (info overload), so that wasn't something I was looking for.
'Don't have anything bad to say about it; we really like it'; cites reliability, affordability, non-wifi, free camera with review
We use infant optics dxr8 pro. We have a camera in his nursery and one pointing at his bassinet. Its been great so far, 4 months in. As a cybersecurity engineer I urge you to please avoid any internet connected cameras, even if they sit behind your home router. There are countless examples and articles of camera compromises, though less so of baby monitors. There is, however, plenty of research into the matter that indicates they're easy to breach if someone wanted to. Security research - http
'Been great so far, 4 months in'; dual camera setup; cybersecurity engineer endorsement of non-wifi approach adds professional credibility
We're going on 2.5 years with our Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro. It's non-WiFi, the picture is great, the night vision works well and I've never had it disconnect or glitch. I believe the range is 1000 feet. The battery isn't the most amazing, but it's also easy enough to replace when the time comes. Another reason we went with it is because you can connect multiple cameras to it and the screen will flip between them at whatever frequency you'd like.
2.5 years of use, 'picture is great', 'never had it disconnect or glitch', 1000 ft range; minor caveat about battery not being 'the most amazing'
Infant Optics DXR-8 Pro. For the price, I don't think there's anything better. We've had it for 3.5 years with 2 cameras. The noise reduction is great. Range is fantastic. The battery used to be great but it gets a little weird lately. I think I need either a new battery or a new monitor, but it's not consistently bad and the charging cable is long enough it can plug in anywhere (also it's loud). We really liked that it wasn't WiFi, which makes it easy to take traveling. Overall, solid A.
'Solid A', 'don't think there's anything better for the price'; 3.5 years use, great noise reduction and range; minor battery degradation after years
We have infantoptics, it's non-wifi and has a really big screen. Only downside I've seen so far (been using it for a year) is battery life could be better. But maybe I just need to be better about turning it off. I bought it primarily for non-wifi and active noise reduction which makes it easier to hear baby over the white noise machine. Works like a charm!
'Works like a charm'; 1 year of use, big screen, active noise reduction works well over white noise machine; minor caveat about battery life
We were gifted an Infant Optics one, I think the brand is? Local, adjustable view by remote. After almost three years the battery is still pretty good, lasts 6 hours or so if we need it to. I really liked the ability to add more cameras when #2 came along. Only issue so far was we had to replace the wall charging cord, but that was mostly bc we keep it lose in-between our pillows so the plugged in cord would get yanked a lot.
3 years use, battery 'still pretty good, lasts 6 hours', liked adding cameras for second child; minor issue with charging cord from user handling
I have an infant optics one that's worked for 3 years, we will be moving it into the room with the baby and probably getting a simple radio-based audio only monitor to put in our toddler's room. If you want nanny cams you can check when you're away, get $30 IP cams for that purpose, IMO. Anything baby that is functionally a wifi cam is going to be way overpriced. I have a pretty good handle on controlling my network, so I'm not overly concerned about privacy issues, but I don't want issues wi
Reports 3 years of use and 'worked' well, planning to continue using it; positive but matter-of-fact rather than enthusiastic
Infant optics doesn't use WiFi and can flip between two cameras. Babysense is non-WiFi that does split screen
Recommends with specific feature details: non-WiFi and dual camera flipping; implied ownership through confident recommendation
Mom here - we have the infant optics. We chose it for the good video quality and closed system without wifi. We like it. We leave it on mute with the screen off and when we see the green sound bar activate, we know to check on baby. Love being able to zoom in on baby and confirm that he's breathing, but not have one of the connected monitors that calculates it. Only negative is that the battery doesn't last all night unplugged and when it dies, it makes a chime sound that instantly and violent
'We like it', 'Love being able to zoom in'; specific use: green sound bar, zoom to confirm breathing; notable negative: battery doesn't last all night and chime wakes baby
We have the infant optics because we wanted it off wi-fi. It's fine but it loses connection for a second frequently. Baby is in her nursery downstairs with the door closed and we are upstairs in the living room this happens.
'It's fine but' with specific problem: 'loses connection for a second frequently' between floors; mixed experience
I got the Infant Optics one because it was constantly recommended here but it had an issue where we would constantly have to go in and jiggle the microphone/move the camera around to get the mic to start working again and it was just a pain. We also had issues with the range - I think maybe it's just the way our apartment is laid out, but I couldn't use the monitor in the kitchen of our single-floor, 1,200 sq ft apartment, so it wasn't practical for us. We ended up getting the Nanit and I like
Specific problems: 'constantly have to go in and jiggle the microphone', range issues in 1200 sq ft apartment, 'wasn't practical'; ended up switching to Nanit
