I have used a Nanit for the whole time and love it. Honestly, the video feature is the best for me, especially as she got older. Being able to see her VERY clearly is great, and it has been a huge help to me when I can see what she's doing. Like there have been many times I can hear her being upset, whining, crying. But it is really really helpful to see what she's doing. Sometimes she is crying and standing up at the bars of the crib, clearly very upset and agitated and I know if she doesn't li
'Love it', 'huge help'; detailed use-case: clear video helps differentiate between upset baby needing intervention vs self-settling
I love my Nanit, I couldn't see what the buzz was about it at first but now that our baby has officially moved to the nursery and we've used it consistently for a few weeks, it's the best thing ever. I find the daily insights on night and day sleep super helpful and interesting, and the fact that you can log in and check what baby is doing from basically any device in the house with a WiFi connection.
'I love my Nanit', 'best thing ever'; specific details: daily sleep insights, multi-device access throughout house
I have the Nanit. Didn't buy it until maybe 3 months in because I had the owlet. (FTM nerves!) The owlet cost us a lot of lost sleep with false alarms from baby wiggles. Switched to the Nanit with breathing band and not a single false alarm, just peace of mind. I slept much better after. I know some moms find it unnecessary, I think you have to ask yourself your personality type to help make that decision.
'Not a single false alarm, just peace of mind'; 'slept much better after'; direct comparison showing Nanit solved Owlet's false alarm problem
we have a 2 week old and our Nanit has been awesome. The Breathing band gives us a lot of peace of mind. The app has been better than I expected also. I like that I can leave the app open in the background on my phone and the sound plays so I can hear if the baby wakes up even with my phone screen off or if I'm scrolling twitter.
'Has been awesome'; 'better than I expected'; specific features: breathing band peace of mind, background audio with screen off
We've been using our Nanit for 2.5 years. I really like the fact that we can use our phones to check on our kid when we are out. It's also really nice if you are out of town and missing your kid. You can just pull up the feed to see them at night. We also use the iPad as our baby monitor, which is nice because there's not another device we need to keep track of.
2.5 years of use; specific benefits: remote phone viewing when out, check from out of town, iPad as monitor eliminates extra device
We have Nanit for both our kids, used the breathing tracker until they were around one and a half now it's just a regular video monitor. Connections always been good, they track sleep and breathing and provide metrics and the apps really easy to use
Used for both kids; specific details: breathing tracker until 1.5 years, good connection, sleep/breathing metrics, easy app
The Nanit hands down. It's expensive and there's a subscription but it gives us a level of peace of mind that's worth it. Plus it just works, no frills. I can't say that about the Owlet. That thing was a piece of hot garbage.
'Hands down', 'just works', 'peace of mind worth it'; acknowledges expense and subscription as downsides but overall positive
We have the Nanit and really like it. There are cons, namely not having a physical monitor so it drains your phone battery. It's great for the sleep insights, ease of use, and granting/removing access to others (grandparents, sitter, etc).
'Really like it'; specific pros: sleep insights, ease of use, sharing access; con: drains phone battery with no physical monitor
We have both the nanit and a non-wifi monitor that I can't remember the brand name of. The nanit does take a second to connect but has the benefit of working on our phones which are always charged and always on hand while the non-wifi monitor requires us to remember to charge it and take it with us wherever we go. The nanit also has a "background audio" feature that lets you hear the audio feed even when the app is in the background which somewhat mitigates the slow startup time. Honestly I don
Compares favorably to non-wifi: always on phone (charged/on hand), background audio feature; acknowledges slow startup; says you can't go wrong with either type
I really don't understand the concern about Wi-Fi monitors. If your network is secure it's fine. Our Nanit has been great, although paying extra for video history and other insights is annoying. We haven't done that yet because our baby is still in the room with us, but I likely will when he's in his own room. The breathing band is a nice option if you're anxious in general.
'Has been great'; acknowledges annoyance of paying extra for features; breathing band noted as nice option; overall positive with cost caveat
We have the Nanit and I just timed it a few times and it was 5-15 seconds on each time I opened the app. Personally the delay isn't a huge issue for me because for whatever reason I am checking it, 5-15 seconds can't make that big a difference. I also figured we will put it on an iPad and leave that running if we truly need to see at a moments notice.
Acknowledges 5-15 second delay but doesn't find it problematic; iPad workaround for instant viewing; overall satisfied
I have a Nanit and it works great but it's pricey. I do like the breathing monitor part of it, since my 4 mo old likes to roll onto his face while sleeping and it kind of makes me anxious. But I think other than the breathing monitor you can get the same functionality from a much cheaper baby monitor. My more pragmatic friends like the Vtech (she's a pediatrician actually) and the Eufy space view pro
'Works great but it's pricey'; values breathing monitor for anxious parent; notes cheaper alternatives offer same functionality otherwise
We have the Nanit as FTP with the breathing band. We have nothing to compare it to, but it gave us so much peace of mind. We had LO sleeping on their own around 2 months in prep for daycare, so we had to use it fairly early. The disconnection issues were really an alert saying "camwra disconnected, baby is out of crib" when LO is still laying there. We both woke up fairly frequently to check on him so as annoying as it was we always had at least two devices looking and the audio always still wor
'So much peace of mind' from breathing band; but specific annoying disconnection false alerts ('camera disconnected, baby is out of crib'); mixed but net positive
We have the Nanit Pro camera and it's good, but a lot of what they sell you on you won't use. What they don't really show is that for you to get all the features you actually need to spend another $200 for their special stand - forget that. It's a decent camera and the app controls are nice. Getting alerts to movement and sound is good, but I bet those features can be found in a way cheaper option.
'Good' but 'a lot of what they sell you on you won't use'; hidden $200 stand cost; decent camera but overpriced for what you get
Nanit is ok. You need a membership after a year which is annoying not like the 400 dollar camera was enough! 😒😒😒 Like I said to an earlier post, if I can go back I'd do a non WiFi monitor. Nanit drainsssss batteries
'Ok' at best; annoyed by required membership after $400 purchase; 'drains batteries'; would choose non-WiFi if doing over
I have Nanit as well however I ABSOLUTELY DON'T endorse using the breathing bands. You can't use them with any sort of swaddle or sleep sack. When we tried it ended up saying he wasn't breathing. Worsened my wife's post partum depression significantly
'ABSOLUTELY DON'T endorse' breathing bands; specific issue: incompatible with swaddles/sleep sacks, false not-breathing alerts that worsened PPD
We got a nanit that it hyper-connected and monitors everything. We got it with HSA money, and now we never use it, plus I hate the idea of putting video of my kids sleeping on the internet. So we use the vtech ones from Walmart. They work amazingly well and have a great battery life. They were cheap, but winded up being one of the best things we have bought.
'Now we never use it'; 'hate the idea of putting video of my kids sleeping on the internet'; abandoned Nanit for VTech; privacy concerns
Everyone swears by the Nanit but its been annoying since day one. Had to replace it because the temp/humidity sensors didn't work, needed another replacement because the wifi was cooked. To their credit they replaced it for free each time, but it wasn't worth the aggravation for us. We'll be going with another brand if we have another.
'Annoying since day one'; specific failures: temp/humidity sensors broken, wifi failure requiring two replacements; switching brands
Do not get the Nanit. I have had to replace my camera 3 times now for issues related to the camera software and it going offline. Their support is also awful and it took almost two weeks of arguing to replace my camera. Thankfully I have a Momcozy camera otherwise I wouldn't have had a backup option to monitor my LO. I would go non-wifi as you don't have to worry about your camera going offline or down if your wifi is down or spotty.
'Do not get the Nanit'; 3 replacements for software/offline issues; 'support is also awful'; warns others away
Whatever you do, don't get a Nanit! I haven't even been able to *log in, much less use the camera, for ~4 months*. Support was useless. Avoid Nanit (and all 'connected' cams) and get something local-only.
'Don't get a Nanit!'; unable to log in for 4 months; 'Support was useless'; warns others away entirely
